A step-by-step guide to creating custom ringtones and getting them onto a ShoreTel phone.
The Mitel IP480 provides 8 line appearances with an easy-to-read, back-lit display. Expanded call history and directory along with visual voicemail are provided. An integrated 10/100 Ethernet switch allows a network drop to be shared with a desktop PC. Six feature keys and five soft keys provide easy access to Mitel features. A full duplex speakerphone and integrated headset jack are standard.
8 Steps total
Step 1: Download and install Audacity
Download and install the free Audacity sound editor.(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/)
Step 2: Open audio file in Audacity
Open the audio file you would like to use for your custom ringtone.
Step 3: Set the following settings in Audacity
1. Project Rate 8000 Hz (Bottom left)
2. Mono (Menu Bar: Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono)
Step 4: Edit (if needed) then Export file
Make any changes such as trimming or repeating the audio, then go to File > Export.
Select 'Other uncompressed files' as the Format. Wwe 2k16 pc game download compressed. Click the Options button and choose Header: WAV (Microsoft) and Encoding: U-Law.
Note: ShoreTel uses 2 audio files per ringtone (an internal call ringtone and an external call ringtone), you can use the same file for both. The sum of both audio files need to be less than 750KB total.
Step 5: Copy ringtone files to ShoreTel server

Copy the exported audio files to the ShoreWare Director server's FTP directory (C:intepubftproot). Optional: Create a folder to put the ringtones in.
Step 6: Create a custom configuration file for a ShoreTel phone
Create a text file named 'shore_.txt' in the ShoreTel server's FTP root folder.
To replace the standard ringtone add the following 2 lines referencing the ringtone(s) to the text file:
WaveRinger1 L/rg /CustomRingtone1.wav
WaveRinger2 L/r1 /CustomRingtone2.wav
Note: Filenames are case sensitive. If you put them in a folder be sure reference the folder path off of the root FTP directory (/ringtones/CustomRingtone1.wav).
Ringtone reference codes:
Standard (External) - L/rg
Standard (Internal) - L/r1
Ring 2 (External) - L/r10
Ring 2 (Internal) - Lr/11
Ring 3 (External) - L/r12
Ring 3 (Internal) - L/r13
Ring 4 (External) - L/r14
Ring 4 (Internal) - L/r15
If you replace a different ring than the standard be sure to go into the phone's options to select it.

Step 7: Reboot the phone
Reboot the phone by either unplugging or pressing the Mute button then RESET# (73728#). Watch the boot process to make sure it is downloading the custom config file and wav files.
To add the ringtone to all phones add the settings to each phone model's respective s#custom.txt file.
Step 8: Sample/Test Files
Here are ringtones from the TV show 24.
Extract the wav files and copy them your ShoreTel server's FTP root folder.
Create a 'shore_xxxxxxxxxxxx.txt' file in the same folder with the following lines:
WaveRinger1 L/rg /ctu24a.wav
WaveRinger2 L/r1 /ctu24b.wav
Reboot your phone.
Now you can add a custom ringtone to your ShoreTel phone(s).
Additional Notes:
Custom files must be loaded in .wav format. Other file formats, such as MP3, are not supported.
The following formats are supported by the phone:
—µ-law: 8-bit, 8 kHz, 16 kHz, Mono
—α-law: 8-bit, 8 kHz, 16 kHz, Mono
—16-bit, 8 kHz, Mono -or- 16-bit, 16 kHz, Mono
Only two custom tones can be loaded on a single phone. The sum total file size of both tones must be less than 750KB. Files exceeding this size will not be downloaded.
If the wave file has a length less than 6 seconds, the phone will loop the ring out to a 6-second length before it is repeated.

Just as it should be done. I've done this many times and its quite easy after you do it a couple times. Just remember, once you do this for someone, people talk, then you will be doing it more than you thought. My oddest one has been Metallica. Sounded awesome!!

Just to clarify, this isn't a ringback tone. To make the mac address work you must use lowercase everything without the - or <>. Also, it is a file type of .txt, dont include .txt at the end of your config name.. lol

This doesn't seem to work on an IP 480 phone. I had to use the ShoreDirector user groups to do this. However the ringtone is very loud. I've tried lowering the decibels in Audacity but still seems very loud on the phone even with the ringer all the way down. Is there a different set of parameters for the IP 480s?
