- I wanted to start modding on Dark souls 3 with Nexus mods, but when I start it up, it doesn't even search for it. It searches for other games including dark souls1 and 2 but not 3.
- Nier Automata x Dark Souls III Music Replacement Mod Mar 7 2019 Released Mar 8, 2019 Third Person Shooter. A Boss Theme Replacement Modification Play through the game and fight dark souls 3's bosses with the amazing OST from Nier Automata!
I realized that a lot of PC players aren't enjoying mods yet. Mostly because they don't know how. So I made a little guide!
Most of them say: Nah mods are not for me, I like the vanilla game. Well. Me too! I don't like new textures for gear and I don't want the smelter demon to look like a smurf. However HD textures, Rain storms, Blood on hits, A better lighting system, an ENB (to make the game darker so torches are needed) A see trough UI and ps3 control buttons in the menus instead of xbox controls are things that I personaly love.
Here is how you can mod your game. It is pretty easy and fast.
Go to http://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls2/?
Register. I found this a bit tricky, since it looked like you need to pay. Everything is completely FREE though. Go to create an account > Register > Ignore all the payment options, just press create account at the bottom.)
Now that you have an account and are logged in press: ' Install NMM (0.52.1)' all the way on the top op the page. (You can choose to install mods manually but this is a free program that does it for you)
When the program is downloaded, Run it and let it search for your dark souls 2 install directory (you can just unmark the rest) and when he found it, press the green mark. Somewhere here it will ask for the installation path of GeDoSaTo so lets do that first.
GeDoSaTo is a great program that already ups your graphics and even makes it easier for some computers to run the game. Double win!
Now download GeDoSaTo from here: Direct link: http://gedosato.metaclassofnil.com/GeDoSaToUpdater.exe Source page for people that met patches to much: http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?page_id=582
You always have to run gedosato before you launch darksouls or your mods won't work, so make a shortcut or whatever. (You can install this anywhere. I recommend placing it inside your darksouls 2 folder but it might as well be on your desktop if you like having your desktop as messy as your actual room.
Start gedosato and click edit settings. Don't be overwelmed. You can close this very soon. If you know what you are doing you can get a nice graphics boost from editing these settings to your preference but for now just scroll all the way down to Texture settings. and change this line:
'enableTextureOverride false' To: 'enableTextureOverride true'
Almost every mod needs this so just do it even if you don't want to get the shield skin with gabes face on it.
Minecraft Mods
Now back on the nexus site: Go to Files > Top files (for the highest rated mods)
Check what mods are interesting for you. and if you want a mod then above the mod there is a toolbar that says: DESC, FILES, IMAGES, ect. Click FILES.
If you downloaded NMM (0.52.1) you can press download with manager. This will automaticly install the mod for you. Or you can do it manually following the installation guide on the mod page.
Once it is downloaded the mod will be in nexus mod manager and you can select it and press activate. Now the mod is activated!
Lots of mods require one more step, because you can tinker them to your personal wishes (like with the bloodygore mod you can go for the small amount of blood or the blood fetish version) In this case you go to your GeDoSaTo install directory (Something like C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonDark Souls IIGeDoSaTo or wherever you installed it) and go to: Textures > DarkSoulsII > override.
Here you will see a bunch of files from mods that will be used to override old textures. But you might see a few folders. If you see a folder this means you have to pick some stuff. for example:
In my override folder there is the folder BloodyGoresouls. I open this folder. Here I can pick the default set or I can pick a set that has more blood then the default one. I love blood so I want the maximum. I follow the guide on the nexus website so I first open the core folder, pick the lvl3 version (the most blood) so that is .dds3 I copy that file and place it in back in the override folder and remove the 3 behind the .dds. I do the same for the particle and splash. This might seem horribly complicated, It is not. Just think for a second and read the mod pages. Basicly you are just dragging textures (the .dds files) to a folder out of which all textures will be used in the game.

And thats it. Run the game while your GeDoSaTo is running and it should work. If there are any questions, I or other redditors might help. I might be to addicted to my epic looking game to care though.
